Hydrogen fuel cells have maximum energy storage densities ranging from 0.33 to 0.51 kWh per liter (L-1) depending on the hydrogen storage method. This is higher than the energy storage densities of rechargeable Li-ion batteries (highest value: 0.14 kWh L –1) and pumped hydroelectric energy storages (energy storage density as low as 0.27 Wh L –1 ).
